President & Chief Executive Officer
Som Seif is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Purpose Investments Inc. which he formed following the sale of Claymore Investments to BlackRock Inc. in March 2012. Mr. Seif started Claymore Investments in Canada in January 2005 and was the former President and Chief Executive Officer leading the implementation of the company’s business development and corporate strategies. Over the seven years of its operation, Claymore Investments organically grew to $8 billion in assets and established itself as a Canadian leader in bringing intelligent, low cost exchange-traded funds to investors through its family of thirty-four exchange-traded funds across broad asset classes.
Prior to Claymore Investments, Mr. Seif was an investment banker with RBC Capital Markets, where he worked since 1999. He played a key role in developing the structured products group at RBC Capital Markets in both Canada and the U.S., where he structured and raised capital for both Canadian and U.S. asset managers.
Som is a Chartered Financial Analyst and has a Bachelor of Applied Science with an emphasis on Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Toronto. Som has a strong commitment to community and is currently a member of the Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation Board, Chair of the Art Gallery of Ontario Corporate Development Committee, a member of the Art Gallery of Ontario’s Foundation Board and University of Toronto Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Advisory Board, and a board member of The Next 36. In 2011, Som was recognized for his vision and leadership by Caldwell Partners International with the Top 40 Under 40 award.
Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operations Officer
Scott Bartholomew is the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Purpose Investments Inc. He has 17 years of experience in the Canadian investment fund industry.
Mr. Bartholomew was an integral part in the development of the Canadian Mutual Fund services business during his 14 years at State Street Fund Services Toronto Inc. as AVP of Fund Administration. During his tenure at Claymore Investments Inc., he was involved in the sale and business integration of Claymore to BlackRock Investments Canada Inc. in 2012.
During his last year with Claymore, Mr. Bartholomew was also Chief Compliance Officer of the firm. He has a Bachelor of Commerce from Ryerson University and is a CFA charterholder.
Manager, Finance and Operations
Edwin Chan is the Manager, Finance and Operations of Purpose. He has 6 years of experience in the investment industry. Prior to joining Purpose, Edwin was a Manager at Ernst & Young LLP, where he specialized in providing audit and advisory services to clients in the financial services industry.
Edwin is a member in good standing with CPA Ontario and has a Master in Accounting from the University of Waterloo.
Michael Karpenko joined Purpose Investments in 2016 as a Financial Analyst. Michael gained asset management experience from co-op terms in the Product Research and Institutional Sales Divisions of Fidelity Investments Canada.
Michael has completed the Canadian Securities Course and is pursuant of his CFA designation. Michael holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Finance from the University of Guelph.
Vice President, Marketing
Dan Rubin is the Vice President, Marketing of Purpose. He has over 10 years of experience in the investment management industry. Mr. Rubin served as Vice President, Marketing at Claymore where he oversaw the development and implementation of all marketing and communications strategies. His experience also includes terms as Vice President, Marketing at Horizons ETFs and Associate Vice President, Marketing at JovFunds Inc. Mr. Rubin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, Business Economics from York University.
Senior Application Developer
Rob is a senior application developer with over 10 years of experience in building enterprise platforms specialized software and web applications and sites. With Purpose he has rebuilt the corporate website with enhanced functionality, and has created internal customized tools and applications used in various business functions within Purpose.
Content and Product Manager
Nancy Turner joined Purpose in 2016 as a Product and Content Manager. She has over 10 years of experience in the Canadian financial industry, on both the buy-side and sell-side. Prior to joining Purpose, Nancy was a Product Manager at a leading independent investment fund company. She has also held positions in Research and ECM at a small investment boutique.
Bruce Robinson is a web and graphic designer at Purpose Investments Inc. Prior web development roles with Claymore Investments/Blackrock iShares, Bruce has been supporting and developing applications and collateral to promote the education and growth of ETFs and other investment products throughout the investment advisory community.
Vlad Tasevski is Vice President of Purpose where he has broad involvement in implementation of the firm’s key initiatives and works closely with the President on corporate development and strategy. Prior to joining Purpose, Vlad was a Vice President at BlackRock in Toronto which he joined following the acquisition of Claymore Investments, Inc. in March, 2012.
Vlad previously spent five years at Claymore Investments, Inc. in a generalist role where he gained broad experience in the areas of product development, operations and sales.
Vlad is a CFA chartholder and has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto. He is an active member of the Rotman Commerce alumni community and is also the head coach of the University of Toronto Men’s Varsity Waterpolo Team. In 2012, Vlad was a recipient of the Arbor Award as a recognition for his contribution and outstanding personal service to the University of Toronto.
Nawan is a generalist Associate providing support to all functions at Purpose, in the form of analytics, reporting, and investor relations. Heavily interested in defining strategy tilts as optimal to portfolio construction, Nawan takes pride in being part of a team bringing products to the market which offer investors comprehensive solutions to their asset allocation needs.
Nawan comes to Purpose after completing his M.Sc. in Finance at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, prior to which he was a part of corporate finance community in Calgary’s energy industry in an analyst capacity. Nawan is also pursuant of his CFA designation.
Jeff is Vice President of Purpose where he is responsible for developing and maintaining strategic relationships for the firm. Prior to joining Purpose he was Head of iShares Product for BlackRock in Canada. Previous to this he was Head of National Accounts for iShares. Jeff spent seven years at Claymore Investments prior to its sale to BlackRock in 2012. Preceding Claymore, he spent over seven years at RBC Financial Group where he held several positions focused on investment funds.
Jeff is a co-founder and director of Ashley’s Angels, a charity in support of SickKids Hospital in Toronto. He is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario.
Vice President, Sales
Ross Neilson is Vice President, Sales, at Purpose Investments. Ross joins Purpose with over 18 years of experience in the financial services industry. Most recently Ross was Director and Head of Issuer Services at Citibank Canada. Prior to that Ross was the head of Canadian sales for BNY Mellon’s Canadian corporate trust division. Ross also spent several years in senior sales positions in the Canadian asset management industry with both AIC and the MAXXUM Group of Funds.
Vice President, Sales
Krista has over 16 years of experience in the investment industry. Her experience ranges from working directly with individual clients at National Bank Financial to developing distribution in the mutual fund, flow-through and closed-end business throughout British Columbia and Alberta. Krista graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration and holds the Financial Management Advisor designation. Krista has held Sales Management positions at Sentry Investments, AIC Funds and Harvest Portfolios Group. Krista has developed trust, commitment and mutually successful relationships with those she interacts with.
Julian serves Western Canada having become a Partner at Purpose with over 10 years of financial services experience in both boutique and global asset management and banking. ?He delivers a depth of knowledge and passion for helping advisors and investors achieve their goals. Julian is a proud husband and father, and enjoys spending his spare time with family and friends, especially over a great meal.
Vice President, Sales
Sylvie has more than 15 years of experience in financial products retail distribution in eastern Canada. She has been a successful sales person for Blackrock- iShares, Manulife Investments and Fidelity across many territories in Québec and Atlantic provinces. She has developed meaningful business relationships with IIROC and MFDA advisors. Sylvie graduated from HEC – University of Montréal in finance and she has completed an executive MBA at HEC-McGill in 1990. She also completed her CSI in 2015. Known for excellence in service, knowledge of the markets and products and a tenacious consultative approach built on trust, she is key in helping IIROC advisors in navigate through volatile markets, build more efficient portfolios, and helping advisors make the right decisions with the right information. She is family oriented, loves to travel to untraveled countries, climb mountains and be outside playing, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.
Vice President Sales
Marcus has over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry. For the majority of his career Marcus has held various Sales and Business Development roles with some of Canada’s leading ETF providers. At Claymore Investments, Marcus helped introduce many of Canada’s first Smart Beta ETFs, growing the company to over $8 Billion in asset under management. Following Claymore’s acquisition, Marcus spent 4 years with iShares BlackRock, Canada’s largest ETF provider. Prior to joining the Canadian ETF industry, Marcus worked with traditional Mutual Fund providers including TD Asset Management, ClaringtonFunds and Synergy Mutual Funds. Marcus has worked directly with IIROC and MFDA advisors throughout his career and strives to link investors to solutions that best meet their specific needs for current and future market conditions.
Grant O’Connor has 7 years of investment industry experience in Canada and the U.S.
He was previously an investment advisor with a multinational firm where he was responsible for dealing with Canadian families’ wealth, insurance needs and overseeing the asset allocation strategy. Most recently Mr. O’Connor was Managing Director of a U.S. based independent investment research firm; interacting with Hedge Funds, Pensions and Endowments where he was instrumental in helping to build out the Canadian and U.S. operation.
Vice President and Portfolio Manager
Mr. Djurdjevic joined Purpose Investments in 2016 as Vice President and Portfolio Manager. He is responsible for research, valuation and trading execution. He joined from Redwood Asset Management where he was a Portfolio Manager. He was previously the Vice President of Research Sales at Macquarie Capital in New York City as well as an Associate in CIBC World Markets’ structured products group.
Mr. Djurdjevic graduated with a BACS in Finance and Administration from the University of Western Ontario and holds the CIM designation.
Phoebe joined Purpose Investments in 2016 as Office Manager, responsible for the coordination of office operations, procedures, and resources to facilitate organizational effectiveness and efficiency. Prior to joining Purpose, Phoebe was with Redwood Asset Management, supporting the operations team and Portfolio Manager. Phoebe graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree.
